Computational Models of Humans

Every important outcome begins with a human decision.

Artificial intelligence has transformed how machines process language, recognize patterns, and generate content. Yet today's AI still has only a limited understanding of why people think, decide, and behave as they do.

Today we simulate aircraft before they fly, molecules before they are synthesized, buildings before they are constructed, and financial markets before capital is deployed. We believe that one day organizations will routinely simulate important human decisions before acting in the real world.

As these models mature, organizations will move beyond surveys, intuition, and historical data toward understanding why people make decisions, exploring how those decisions change under different conditions, and evaluating interventions before they are deployed. This will reshape how products are developed, how organizations communicate, how public policy is designed, and how AI systems interact with people.

But understanding decisions is only the beginning.

Computational models of humans have the potential to become a new scientific tool for understanding people themselves: how we learn, cooperate, trust, create, negotiate, form relationships, build organizations, and adapt to change. They could enable AI agents and robots that better understand the people they work with, richer simulations of markets and societies, and entirely new ways of studying human behavior across science, business, and public policy.

We believe that over time, computational human models may become as fundamental to understanding human systems as physical models are to engineering and biological models are to medicine.

At Heura Lab, we are helping build that future through scientific research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and psychologically grounded AI.
